When did you start buying houses in Norman?
We bought our first house in Norman back in the early 1950’s. My grandfather was in the military and there was a training there that he reported to. He bought a small house in the area and for a few years lived there until he was transferred to southern California.
That became one of our families first rental properties and we had that house for a very long time.
Why do you like buying houses in Norman?
Norman is the home of the University of Oklahoma. We are proud to live in the Sooner State and we think that OU represents a lot of the characteristics that make this state great!
The area is always bustling with people pursuing there dreams and trying to make a better future, just like the original sooner’s did during the land run. It’s a place where people truly believe that hard work can pay off. It’s also a place where people try and balance hard work and their professional life with family time, entertainment and relaxation.
Work-life balance is important and we don’t think many places are a better example. The same people that work hard at OU are the ones that work equally hard when they hit the turf, and even if they aren’t always national champions, even if they don’t always win, we are always happy to have such great people representing our great state!
There’s always something to do in Norman! The shopping is great, you can always have a great time at Sooner Mall, which was always one of my personal favorite places to shop; or even just go to kill some time. There are a lot of great places to eat, catch a movie, play outdoor sports, or just relax at one of the areas sports bars.
You can never be sure exactly what you will find either. There was one instance that we went to look at a house for sale in the area and when we got there it was sitting on three lots, and it was packed full of new cars! One of the dealerships in the area had bought the house to use as an overflow lot. So right there in the middle of a neighborhood was this old vacant house. It looked like it hadn’t been lived in for some time. The moment you step through the gates the cars were parked so close together you could barely walk!
Unfortunately they told us that the cars didn’t come with the house. It’s probably a good thing though because we couldn’t figure out what we could possibly do with all of those cars and it’s really hard to find a tenant that wants a great view of a car lot.
